The Noise: Making a Difference

A LIBRARY and a patio were just two of the things which were given a new lease of life thanks to young people from Christ Church Downend’s youth club. Around 50 boys and girls joined with hundreds of other young people from church youth groups across South Gloucestershire and north Bristol to work on community projects in Bristol during the first bank holiday weekend of May. This is the fourth year that the young people from Downend have participated in the event, called ‘The Noise’. The team were given the responsibility of painting a library, parents’ room and a paved patio area at a children’s centre in Southmead. The team also got stuck into litter-picking and rubbish clearance and then helped run two free family fun afternoons in Southmead and Horfield. Youth leader Gary Smart said: “The morale of the team was really high and was further lifted when passing local residents said ‘Thank you for all you are doing’. “It’s so good to see these young people working hard for others; serving the community and showing God’s love in practical ways. It goes to show that young people are capable of doing great things.”
